SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China's Dalian Petrochemical, a subsidiary of PetroChina, has shut its aromatics unit at Dalian in Liaoning province on 20 May for 30 days of annual maintenance, a company source said on Wednesday.

The unit produces 250,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 486,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 496,000 tonnes/year of xylene, the source said.

Most of the unit’s benzene output is used for production at Dalian Petrochemical’s 100,000 tonne/year downstream styrene monomer (SM) unit, the source added. The SM plant also obtains benzene supplies from Jilin Petrochemical and Liaoyang Petrochemical.

The unit’s output of toluene and xylene is mainly for captive use at the company’s gasoline blending plants, the source said.
