HOUSTON (ICIS)--Enterprise Products and partner Energy Transfer have begun a “binding commitment period” for shippers to reserve capacity on their planned 450,000 bbl/day joint-venture oil pipeline from Cushing, Oklahoma, to Houston, the companies said on Wednesday.

The commitment period runs from 25 May to 8 July.

Enterprise Products and Energy Transfer announced the 584-mile pipeline project last month.

If built, the project will provide an outlet for oil supplies which are currently stranded at Cushing because of a lack of southbound pipeline infrastructure.

Subject to customer commitments and regulatory approvals, the pipeline is expected to begin service in the fourth quarter of 2012, the companies said.

The project will use about 230 miles of existing natural gas pipeline infrastructure that will be converted to crude oil.
