Toyo Engineering subsidiary awarded contract for India SBR plant

TOKYO (ICIS)--Toyo Engineering’s Indian subsidiary has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for India’s first large-scale styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) plant, the Japanese company said on Thursday.

The 120,000 tonne/year SBR plant will be built at Panipat, in India’s Haryana state, by Indian Synthetic Rubber Ltd – a joint venture among Indian Oil Corp, Taiwan’s TSRC Corp and Japan’s Marubeni Corp – for an estimated investment of $200m (€142m), Toyo Engineering said.

The plant is scheduled for completion in 2013, subject to Indian Synthetic Rubber receiving environmental clearance by the end of July 2011, Toyo Engineering added.

“Synthetic rubber produced by this plant will be utilised as feedstock to meet the rapidly growing demand for automotive tyres, using butadiene supplied from an adjacent ethylene plant,” Toyo Engineering said.
