FUKUOKA, Japan (ICIS)--Tongsuh Petrochemical has started construction on a 245,000 tonne/year acrylonitrile (ACN) plant in Ulsan, South Korea, a company source said late on Thursday.
The plant is expected to begin commercial production in January 2013, he said.
The source was speaking on the sidelines of this year’s Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC) in ?xml:namespace>
Tongsuh has a 300,000 tonne/year ACN plant at the same site, which was taken off line for a turnaround on 13 May. The plant is expected to resume production in the second week of June, he added.
Tongsuh is a wholly owned subsidiary of Asahi Kasei, a major Japanese ACN producer.
This year’s APIC runs from 26–27 May.
