US chemical investigators to probe metal-powder plant explosion

HOUSTON (ICIS)--The US Chemical Safety Board (CSB) is investigating an explosion on Friday at a metal powder plant in Gallatin, Tennessee, it said.

The explosion, which injured five people – including three in critical condition – marks the third serious accident at Hoeganaes’s plant in Gallatin this year, the board said.

In January, two workers were killed in a flash fire at the plant, and in March a fire injured one worker, the CSB said.

The plant produces atomised iron powder for industrial customers and employs about 180 people.
