HOUSTON (ICIS)--WR Grace has commercialised eight fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts and additives with zero or low rare-earth content, the US-based specialty chemicals and catalyst producer said on Wednesday.

WR Grace has made the move in response to surging rare-earth prices and supply concerns, it said.

The company, which launched the catalysts and additives in the first quarter of 2011, will invest at its manufacturing facilities to make these technologies available globally, it said.

Financial or capacity details were not disclosed.

In related news, US lawmakers last week introduced a bill to revive US production of rare-earth elements and other critical minerals to reduce the country’s dependence on China for those materials.
