China's Yantai Wanhua to double MDI capacity at Ningbo

SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s largest methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) producer Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes plans to double its MDI capacity at Ningbo in eastern Zhejiang province to 1.2m tonnes/year by debottlenecking, a company source said on Thursday.

Yantai Wanhua has two MDI plants at Ningbo, each with a capacity of 300,000 tonnes/year.

“After the expansion, our MDI capacity in Ningbo will be increased to 1.2m tonnes/year from the existing 600,000 tonnes/year,” the source told ICIS.

The company’s 360,000 tonne/year feedstock aniline facility will be expanded to 540,000 tonnes/year, the source added.

However, the source declined to give a timeline for the project expansion as the producer is waiting for government approval.

Yantai Wanhua runs a 200,000 tonne/year MDI plant at Yantai in eastern Shandong province.
