SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Malaysia’s state-owned oil giant PETRONAS has reduced the operating rates at its 300,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant at Kuantan in Pahang state because of a technical issue, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

The plant’s operating rates dropped to 65-70% from around 80% before the technical issue surfaced early this week, the source added. Details were not immediately available.

The plant was shut for a regular turnaround from 18 April to 19 May.
