SINGAPORE (ICIS)--US-based DuPont Sustainable Solutions is collaborating with Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical (Petro Rabigh) to assess and plan the safety outlines for the Saudi Arabian producer’s petrochemical complex in Rabigh, DuPont said on Thursday.

“Petro Rabigh will work with DuPont to evaluate its safety culture and safety management system to establish a baseline,” the US-based chemicals major said in a statement.

“Upon completion of the assessment, a comprehensive implementation plan to improve safety outcomes will be developed,” it said.

With demand quickly increasing, PetroRabigh is already seeking to expand its operations, the statement said, without further elaborating.

PetroRabigh, a joint venture (JV) between oil and gas firm Saudi Aramco and Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical, has the capacity to produce 18.4m tonnes of petroleum-based products and 2.4m tonnes of ethylene (C2) and propylene (C3) based derivatives per year at its complex in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia.

DuPont Sustainable Solutions is the safety and sustainability consultancy arm of DuPont.
