US April MDI exports drop by 14% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of mixtures of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) in April were 1,593 tonnes, a 14% drop from 1,860 tonnes during the same month a year earlier, but a 1% increase from 1,576 tonnes the previous month, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Thursday.

From January through April, MDI exports increased by 5.2% to 5,595 tonnes, compared with 5,319 tonnes in the first four months of last year, according to the ITC.

The January-through-April year-on-year increase resulted from greater volumes shipped to Australia, Venezuela and Brazil.

Top destinations for US MDI from January through April were Brazil (2,378 tonnes), Mexico (1,230 tonnes) and China (958 tonnes).

US MDI suppliers are Bayer MaterialScience, Huntsman, BASF and Dow Chemical.
