US ammonia imports decrease by 14% in April

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of ammonia in April decreased by 14% from March, according to data released Thursday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Imports of ammonia totalled 588,339 tonnes in April, down from the 683,610 tonnes imported in March.

But the April import volume represented an increase of 36% from the 431,526 tonnes imported in April 2010, the ITC said.

Trinidad & Tobago, at 402,182 tonnes, was the top source for US ammonia imports. Other top suppliers included Canada at 111,786 tonnes, Russia at 42,250 tonnes and Venezuela at 23,335 tonnes.

No imports from Ukraine, a traditional source, were reported. Other sources of ammonia included Japan and Korea.

US importers of ammonia include PotashCorp, Mosaic, CF Industries, Yara, Agrium and Koch.
