US urea imports in April fell by 16% month on month

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of urea in April decreased 16% from March, according to data released on Thursday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Imports of urea totalled 526,146 tonnes in April, a decrease from the 628,026 tonnes imported in March.

April's urea import volume also represented a decline of 23% from the 687,569 tonnes imported in April 2010, the ITC said.

Canada, at 163,266 tonnes, was the major source for US urea imports.

Other suppliers included Egypt at 94,437 tonnes, Venezuela at 70,483 tonnes, Oman at 50,029 tonnes, Qatar at 49,637 tonnes, Trinidad at 39,812 tonnes, Russia at 30,112 tonnes and Romania at 25,000 tonnes.

Minor sources of urea were Germany and China.

US importers of urea include Potash Corp, Mosaic, Koch and CF Industries.
