China’s Tianye Chem achieves on-spec polyformaldehyde product

SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Tianye Chemical has achieved on-spec production at its 60,000 tonne/year polyformaldehyde plant at Hohhot in Inner Mongolia early this week, a source close to the company said on Friday.

The company’s polyformaldehyde plant has three lines, each with a capacity of 20,000 tonnes/year.

Tianye Chemical started commercial operation at its plant’s first two lines in November 2010 and January 2011 respectively.

The two lines have produced more than 10,000 tonnes of polyformaldehyde so far, the source said.

The producer achieved on-spec production at its third line on 7 June after it was started up on 19 May, the source added.

Tianye Chemical’s 200,000 tonne/year methanol plant at the same site supplies feedstock methanol to the polyformaldehyde plant’s lines.

The output from the polyformaldehyde plant will boost the domestic supply because China is currently importing half of its polyformaldehyde requirement, the source said.

Tianye Chemical is a subsidiary of China’s major fertilizer producer, China Blue Chemical.

Polyformaldehyde is a thermoplastic used in the automotive, construction, electrical appliance and agricultural sectors.
