Venezuela’s Estizulia idles PS plant on lack of styrene

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Estizulia, the local polystyrene (PS) producer in Venezuela, stopped production at its El Tablazo plant because it lacks styrene monomer (SM), a company source said on Friday.

The plant has been down for about six days and was expected to be down for a total of two weeks.

Shipment delays caused the feedstock shortage, the source said.

Supply remained tight for the domestic market, but the food packaging sector was well supplied, according to local sources.

Shortages of electricity were still affecting some areas, particularly outside the capital. The Estizulia plant had not been affected so far.

The plant has a capacity of 70,000 tonnes/year, according to ICIS.
