Austria's OMV restarts Schwechat cracker following maintenance

LONDON (ICIS)--OMV is in the process of restarting its cracker at Schwechat, Austria, following planned maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.

The six-week routine maintenance work at the Austrian energy group’s 500,000 tonne/year ethylene (C2) cracker began on 3 May.

The restart marks the end of the spring cracker maintenance slate in Europe and comes amid speculation regarding widespread operating rate reductions because of lacklustre polyolefins demand.

The olefins produced at Schwechat are primarily supplied to neighbouring polyolefins producer Borealis, in which OMV has a minority stake. The polyolefin units were down in conjunction with the cracker. There was no information as to their status at the time of publication.
