TORONTO (ICIS)--Praxair has started up a cryogenic air separation plant to supply Essar Steel Algoma's mill in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, the US-based industrial gases major said on Tuesday.

The unit will supply 900 tonnes/day of gaseous oxygen, Praxair said.

It is integrated with an existing Praxair plant at Essar’s Sault St Marie site, bringing Praxair's total capacity there to 2,700 tonnes/day, it added.

In addition to supplying Essar, the expansion adds merchant liquid capacity to support growing local atmospheric gases and US argon markets, the company said.

Financial details were not disclosed.
