Chevron Phillips restarts Texas HDPE units after power outage

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Chevron Phillips restarted two high density polyethylene (HDPE) units its Cedar Bayou plant in Texas after a brief outage last week, sources said on Wednesday.

The outage was caused by a 6 June lightning strike, which resulted in the loss of power to two of Chevron Phillips' units, according a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

The units were down between two and three days, and some production was lost, according to a market participant.

Chevron Phillips declined to comment on operations at the Cedar Bayou facility.

The company has a 350,000 tonne/year capacity linear low density PE (LLDPE) unit, a 280,000 tonne/year capacity low density PE (LDPE) unit, and a 372,000 tonne/year capacity HDPE at the site, according to ICIS plants and projects.
