HOUSTON (ICIS)--US-based Dow Chemical awarded Fluor a basic engineering and design services (EDS) contract for the company's on-purpose propylene plant, the contractor said on Wednesday.

The plant will be built in Freeport, Texas. The plant is planned for start-up in 2015.

Dow's plant would be the second propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant in the US. Petrologistics owns a 544,000 tonnes/year plant in Houston.

Both plants would use propane as a feedstock. Most US propylene producers rely on oil-based feedstocks.

Once construction is completed, the Dow plant will produce polymer grade propylene (PGP), Fluor said.
