HOUSTON (ICIS)--Abu Dhabi Oil Refining (Takreer) plans to build a propane dehydrogenation unit at a refinery in the United Arab Emirates to produce 500,000 tonnes/year of propylene, US engineering firm Honeywell said on Thursday.
Takreer's unit would be the first such project to be implemented within a refinery.
Honeywell said that its UOP petrochemicals business won a contract to provide technology and engineering services for the project, which is expected to start up by the end of 2013.
The project “is a significant milestone that indicates refineries are moving towards the production of higher-value petrochemical products to achieve the most value from their operations,” said Pete Piotrowski, senior vice president and general manager for UOP’s process technology and equipment unit.
Financial details were not disclosed.
