SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemical plans to shut its 600,000 tonne/year methanol-to-olefins (MTO) plant and derivative units in Baotou on 5 July for a 35–45 day turnaround, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

The derivative facilities that will be shut include a 300,000 tonne/year linear low density polyethylene/high density polyethylene (LLDPE/HDPE) swing unit, and a 300,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) facility, the source added.

The company's PE and PP allocation to its customers will be reduced by about two-thirds in July because of the maintenance shutdown, which in turn may boost market sentiment, local traders said.

Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemical was not immediately available for comment.
