Japan’s ethylene production down by 5.2% in June, up 3.1% year on year

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of ethylene decreased by 5.2% to 524,400 tonnes in June from the previous month, statistics from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) showed on Tuesday.

Two naphtha crackers were shut for scheduled maintenance in June and three crackers were shut for turnarounds in May, according to the official data, which did not disclose the operators of the crackers.

However, June’s ethylene production volume is a 3.1% increase from the corresponding period a year earlier, when four crackers were shut for maintenance in June 2010, the data showed.

Statistics released from the METI on 1 July showed that Japan exported 26,592 tonnes of ethylene in May.
