Taiwan’s FCFC eyes end-July restart for No 1 aromatics unit

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp (FCFC) plans to restart its No1 aromatics unit at Mailiao in end-July, as a government-led investigation is still ongoing at the facilities at the site, a company source said on Friday.

The unit can produce 150,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 100,000 tonnes/year of isomer-grade mixed xylenes and 270,000 tonnes/year of paraxylene (PX).

The company was hoping to resume production at the plant in end-June, but the investigation at the Mailiao petrochemical complex following a fire in May is prolonging the shutdown of the aromatics unit, the source said.
