GUANGZHOU (ICIS)--A fire at a crude distillation unit (CDU) of PetroChina’s subsidiary, Dalian Petrochemical, forced its shutdown on Saturday, the company said in a statement on its website.

The fire occurred at 14:25 local time (06:25 GMT) at one of the company’s CDUs due to leakage from the unit’s heat exchanger, but did not cause any environmental damage or result in any casualties, the statement said.

The fire was brought under control after about five and a half hours, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency. It said a 10m tonnes/year CDU had caught fire.

Dalian Petrochemical, located at Dalian of the northeastern province of Liaoning, has a total refining capacity of 20.5m tonne/year, according to the company’s website.

The company completed a maintenance turnaround at the CDU in late June, according to C1 Energy, an ICIS service in China

It was not immediately known how many CDUs the company has at the site.
