LONDON (ICIS)--Praxair has started up a new 1,800 tonne/day air separation plant near Cologne in Germany to meet rising demand, the US-based industrial gases major said on Wednesday.

Praxair’s plant at Hurth is located in a chemical production area around the city, home to more than 150 chemical companies, the company said.

The plant, first announced in 2008, more than doubles Praxair’s capacity at Hurth, it added.

The company did not disclose how much the plant cost.

Praxair operates two pipeline complexes and a bulk distribution and packaged gas businesses in Germany, supplying companies in the refining, chemical and steel industries, as well as some 40,000 smaller customers.
