SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp’s (FCFC) No 1 aromatics unit at Mailiao, Taiwan, has remained shut with no firm restart date, market sources said on Friday.
The company needs approval from the ?xml:namespace>
A government-led investigation is still ongoing at the Mailiao petrochemical complex following a fire in May, preventing the restart of the aromatics unit that can produce 150,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 100,000 tonnes/year of isomer-grade mixed xylenes and 270,000 tonnes/year of paraxylene (PX).
Meanwhile, FCFC’s No 2 and No 3 aromatics units are currently running at full capacity, market sources said.
The company is considering a turnaround at the No 3 aromatics unit in September or October, but no firm plans have been finalised, they said.
The No 3 unit can produce up to 700,000 tonnes/year of PX, 470,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 150,000 tonnes/year of orthoxylene (OX).
