GUANGZHOU (ICIS)--China’s Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group is planning to build a 1.5m tonne/year coal-based methanol plant at Yinchuan in the northwestern province of Ningxia, a company source said on Tuesday.

The company is expected to start building the plant this year and bring it on stream three years later, the source said.

Baofeng Energy runs a 200,000 tonne/year coal-based methanol plant at the same site, he added.

Other facilities under consideration include a 450,000 tonne/year synthetic ammonia plant, an 800,000 tonne/year urea plant and a 400,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant, said the source.

“We are issuing tenders for construction and engineering of those plants. It’s unknown yet when start-ups can commence,” he said.
