SHANGHAI (ICIS)--Indonesian oxo-alcohols producer Petro Oxo Nusantara (PON) restarted its oxo-alcohol plant at Gresik on 26 July, a source close to the company said late Tuesday.

The plant, which was shut down on 7 July for regular maintenance, can produce 12,000 tonnes/year of isobutanol (IBA), and 140,000 tonnes/year of 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH), the source added.

PON is a major supplier of 2-EH for China. During the turnaround period, the producer decreased the quantity of its contracted cargoes to downstream factories in China and withdrew from the spot market, the source said.

Chinese downstream factories import about 8,000-9,000 tonnes of 2-EH every month for normal production. Of this, 60-70% is made up of contract cargoes and around 30% are spot cargoes, according to official China customs data.
