Bechtel, Germany’s Linde to cooperate on US ethylene projects

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US chemicals engineering firm Bechtel has teamed up with Germany’s Linde to cooperate on ethylene cracker projects and expansions in the North America, the companies said on Wednesday.

“With the growth in shale gas production in North America, ethylene producers are planning new grass-roots projects and major expansions, and they need a world-class team to deliver them,” said Jack Futcher, president of Bechtel’s oil, gas and chemicals business unit.

The combined Bechtel-Linde engineering team will serve the North American market from Bechtel’s offices in Houston, the companies said. They did not disclose specific projects or bids they may be targeting.

The companies' cooperation agreement builds on their previous work together at the Borouge petrochemicals complex in the United Arab Emirates, they added.

The engineering alliance between Bechtel and Linde comes as a number of chemical firms, including Dow Chemical, have announced plans for crackers or expansions in the wake of the US shale gas boom.
