HOUSTON (ICIS)--Chemtura plans to produce its Synton-brand high-viscosity polyalphaolefin (PAO) synthetic basestocks at its Dutch plant in Amsterdam by 2013, the US-based specialty chemicals firm said on Thursday.

Chemtura did not disclose capacity or financial details.

“Chemtura is increasing capacity and establishing a European manufacturing capability for high-viscosity polyalphaolefin (PAO) synthetic basestocks in order to meet the increasing global demand for these products and locate production capacity in a region of significant demand growth,” said Sean O’Connor, president and general manager of the company’s petroleum additives business.

“Production in Europe allows us to further enhance our service levels and continue to meet our commitments to our customers,” O’Connor added.

Earlier this year, Chemtura also announced a capacity expansion for Synton grades at its plant in Elmira in Ontario, Canada.
