EUROPE Q3 GLYCERIN PRICES FALL
Third quarter European glycerin contract prices fell by up to €170/tonne ($246/tonne) on improved supply. Vegetable glycerin contract prices showed a range of €515-580/tonne free delivered (FD) Northwest Europe (NWE) - down €105-120/tonne from second quarter prices. Tallow glycerin prices showed a range of €460-525/tonne FD NWE, down by €105-130/tonne from second quarter prices.
US Q3 GLYCERIN PRICE DIPS ON FLAT DEMAND
US refined glycerin third quarter contracts edged down slightly from second quarter price levels on flat US demand and a sluggish economic recovery. Vegetable refined glycerin contracts were in a range of 38-46 cents/lb ($838-1,014/tonne), down 1 cent/lb on the high end of the 38-47cents/lb second quarter levels. Tallow refined glycerin third quarter contracts were also down 1 cent/lb on the upper end, at 36-45 cents/lb.
SOLVAY MULLS CHINA GLYCERIN-TO-ECH PLANT
Belgian chemical firm Solvay has awarded French engineering firm Technip a contract to study the construction of a greenfield glycerin-to-epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant in Taixing, Jiangsu province, China, with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year. The contract is scheduled to be completed in 2013.
FORD TO USE SOYBEAN IN RUBBER MATERIALS
US auto manufacturer Ford has partnered with Recycled Polymeric Materials for gaskets and seals made from 25% post-consumer particulate from recycled tires, and 17% soybean-based material, to be used on Ford's 2011 model vehicles such as the Escape, Mustang, Focus and Fiesta.
