Taiwan’s FPCC shuts base oil unit

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) has shut its 520,000 tonne/year Group II base oil unit over the weekend and cancelled its term and spot base oil shipments scheduled for loading after the first week of August, a company source said on Monday.

It was originally planning to export around 45,000 tonnes in August.

The unit was shut because of the closure of FPCC’s 540,000 bbl/day refinery in Mailiao following a blast at a propylene pipeline over the weekend.

No restart date for the base oil unit was immediately available.
