SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) and US-based Syntroleum Corporation have started up their coal-to-liquids plant at Zhenhai in east China’s Zhejiang province, a source from Sinopec said on Wednesday.

The two companies celebrated the grand opening of the Sinopec/Syntroleum Demonstration Facility on 1 August, the source added.

The 80 bbl/day facility uses Syntroleum-Sinopec Fischer Tropsch technology to convert coal, asphalt and petroleum coke to synthetic petrochemical products, according to the source.

The two companies signed a technology transfer agreement in 2009, according to the source.
