LONDON (ICIS)--China’s Lihuayi Weiyuan Chemical has awarded a contract to KBR to supply its phenol technology for a new grassroots plant due to come on stream in the fourth quarter of 2012, the US engineering group said on Thursday.

Lihuayi’s plant in Lijin county, Shandong province, will produce 220,000 tonnes/year of phenol/acetone.

“The phenol/acetone project is one of the major organic chemical projects invested [in] by Lihuayi Group,” said Li Yusheng, general manager of Lihuayi Group and chairman of Lihuayi Weiyuan Chemical.

“It will accelerate the forging of industrial clusters of organic chemicals and new materials,” he said.
