SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Brazil's chemical imports rose to $3.7bn in July, a 23% year on year increase, Brazilian chemical trade group Abiquim said on Thursday.
Year to date, imports totalled $22.8bn (€16.0bn), 27% higher over the same period in 2010. July’s total was 1% higher compared to June, Abiquim added.
Exports totalled $1.6bn in July, up 46% year on year and 24% from June, the association said.
Year to date exports were up 23% year on year at $9bn, Abiquim said.
Brazil’s chemical trade deficit reached $13.8bn year to date, a 29% increase over the same period last year.
Fertilisers led all imports at $4.3bn, while thermoplastic resins led all exports at $1.4bn.
