SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemical plans to restart its 300,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant and 300,000 tonne/year linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE)/high density PE (HDPE) swing plant in Baotou on 18 August, a company source said on Friday.

The PP and PE plants were shut on 5 July for regular maintenance, the source said.

“The LLDPE/HDPE swing [plant] is expected to produce HDPE because of a shortage of butene,” the source added.

Butene is one of the feedstocks for producing LLDPE.

”The PP plant will produce yarn grade after it resumes production,” he added.

The restart of Shenhua Baotou’s PE and PP plants will not have an immediate impact on the market because its supply will only be delivered to the market in late August as a result of logistical issues, distributors in north China said.
