Iran’s BIPC shuts HDPE unit on technical outage

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Iran's Bandar Imam Petrochemical Co (BIPC) has shut its high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant in early August because of a technical outage, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

The Bandar Imam-based HPDE facility had been shut for a debottlenecking to boost its nameplate capacity to 120,000 tonnes/year from 75,000 tonnes/year.

“The plant did start up after the expansion, but was shut soon after due to a technical problem and we are still unsure when it will be restarted,” the source said.

BIPC usually produces blow moulding grade at the HDPE plant for the domestic market.

To match the shortfall, Iran's Mehr Petrochemical has switched the production at its 300,000 tonne/year HPDE plant at Assaluyeh to blow moulding grade.

BIPC’s 100,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant at the same site is running at close to full tilt for film production, the source said.
