PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil (ICIS)--A Brazilian energy regulator may begin overseeing ethanol, the agency said on Monday, in accordance with a bill voted on by congress.

The Camara dos Deputados voted on the bill earlier this month.

Under it, ethanol shipment, production and supply would be overseen by the Agencia Nacional do Petroleo, Gas Natural e Combustiveis (ANP).

The regulator would also oversee ethanol imports and exports.

Later this week, legislators should finish their review of the bill before sending it to the president.

If approved by the president, the bill would become law.
