LONDON (ICIS)--South Africa-based energy and petrochemicals major Sasol on Wednesday reported a fire at its synfuels production plant in Secunda.
The company said that at approximately 10:00 local time (08:00 GMT), an incident occurred which led to a fire at the gasification plant on the west side of the facility.
Details of the incident were not disclosed.
Sasol said that its emergency services were immediately dispatched and the situation is under control.
“One injury has been confirmed and five employees are being medically assessed. There is no impact on the local community,” the company added.
The cause of the incident is still being investigated. It is not known if production at the plant has been affected.
