SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Idemitsu Petrochemical Corp (FIPC) is planning to shut its three polycarbonate (PC) lines at Mailiao in September for a turnaround, market sources said on Monday.
The producer’s 60,000 tonne/year No 1 line will be taken off line from 1 September to 12 October, while its 60,000 tonne/year No 2 and 75,000 tonne/year No 3 line will be shut on 9-20 September, the sources added.
The shutdowns are not expected to have a major impact on prices given the prevailing weak market fundamentals, market sources said.
The price outlook for general purpose (GP) moulding-grade PC remains weak, while the prices for optical-grade PC are expected to be underpinned by FIPC’s scheduled shutdown, the sources said.
FIPC is a joint venture between Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp (FCFC) and Japan’s Idemitsu Kosan.
