HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene oxide (EO) production in the second quarter fell by 9% year on year, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) said on Tuesday.
EO production totalled 1.36bn lb (617,000 tonnes) in the second quarter, down from 1.50bn lb in the second quarter of 2010.
While no reason was given by the NPRA for the 9% slide, during the second quarter Eastman closed an EO refining column vent valve at its Longview facility in Texas, the company said in a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in May. Eastman’s Longview facility has an EO capacity of 105,000 tonnes/year.
Compared with the first quarter of 2011, EO production was down 11%, from 1.53bn lb.
