Japan’s Nihon Oxirane shuts styrene plant for maintenance

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Nihon Oxirane Co shut its 425,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) plant at Chiba on 1 September for maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

The shutdown is in line with the turnaround at an upstream cracker at the same site.

The SM unit is expected to be shut for around 48 days and is scheduled to come back on line on 18 October.

Nihon Oxirane is a joint venture between Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical and Netherlands-registered LyondellBasell.

The company’s plant at Sodegaura, Chiba prefecture, can produce 180,000 tonnes/year of propylene oxide (PO) and 425,000 tonnes/year of SM.
