The company will shut the plants for two weeks as part of a scheduled maintenance, the source added.
The producer will shut its SM plant on 6 September, and take off line its downstream EPS and PS plants two days later, according to the company source.
Yangzi-BASF requires 18,000 tonnes/month of SM to feed the downstream plants.
The company produces 10,000 tonnes/month of SM at its plant and purchases the remaining 8,000 tonnes/month from the spot market to meet its feedstock needs.
The shutdown will have a minimum impact on the market, traders said.
“We will stop purchasing spot SM cargo during the maintenance period,” the company source said.
