SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co will bring its low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant at Al-Jubail in Saudi Arabia on stream in the middle of 2012, a source familiar with the project said on Tuesday.
The nameplate capacity of the LDPE facility is 300,000 tonnes/year, he said.
“We are looking at producing film and lamination grades. But nothing is finalised for now,” the source said.
SABIC will handle the marketing of the LDPE products and will be selling the lamination grade for the first time, the source said.
SABIC markets the bulk of its LDPE film grade products in Europe, according to the source.
“We have yet to decide which regions we plan to target for this new plant,” the source added.
SABIC owns 35% of Saudi Kayan, with 20% owned by Al-Kayan Petrochemical and 45% by public shareholders.
