US LLDPE exports rise 16% in July, fall 21% year to date

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) July exports rose by 16% month-on-month, but have fallen by 21% in the year to date compared to the same period in 2010, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.

Mexico was the destination for 17,945 tonnes out of the 49,719 tonnes of LLDPE exported in July, but exports to that country were down from June levels.

Exports levels to Singapore, China, Canada, Belgium, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Costa Rica rose from June to July.

In the year to date, US LLDPE exports were 324,209 tonnes, down from 412,349 tonnes for the same period in 2010, according to ITC data.

US low density polyethylene (LDPE) exports also saw a month-on-month increase of 16% to 48,469 tonnes in July from 41,975 tonnes in June, while seeing a 12% year-to-date decline from 2010.

US high density polyethylene (HDPE) exports rose by 13% month on month, with 125,720 tonnes in July, up from 111,361 tonnes in June. HDPE exports saw a year-to-date decline of 4.2%, falling to 987,568 tonnes for 2011, from 1,030,910 tonnes for the same period.
