US melamine imports increase by 25% month on month in July

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of melamine in July increased by 25% from June, according to data made available on Thursday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Imports of melamine totalled 3,311 tonnes in July, an increase from the 2,658 tonnes imported in June, and the 2,976 tonnes imported in June 2010, the ITC said.

Trinidad and Tobago, at 1,780 tonnes, was the largest source of melamine. Other leading suppliers of imports included China at 847 tonnes, Indonesia at 500 tonnes and Germany at 184 tonnes.

US exports of melamine totalled 2,020 tonnes in July, an increase from the 1,617 tonnes exported in June.

Destinations for US melamine included Canada, Norway, Colombia, Ireland, Sweden, Mexico and Argentina.

Cornerstone Chemical is the only US producer of melamine.

Exports of melamine resins totalled 2,211 tonnes in July, up from the 2,152 tonnes exported in June, but down the 2,367 tonnes exported in June 2010.

Imports of melamine resins totalled 894 tonnes in July, up from the 828 tonnes imported in June, but down from the 1,133 tonnes imported in June 2010.
