US propylene stocks rise 26%; refineries run steady

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US propylene inventories rose by 26% in the last week of August, despite mostly steady operating rates at US refineries, Energy Information Administration (EIA) data revealed on Thursday.

Refinery-sourced propylene inventories stood at 2.947m bbl in the week ended 2 September, up from 2.347m bbl a week earlier, according to EIA data.

US refineries operated at 89.0% of capacity last week, down from 89.2% in the week ended 26 August, the government said.

EIA figures refer to non-fuel use propylene, which is intended for petrochemical manufacturing.

Refinery-grade propylene (RGP) for September traded at 67.500 cents/lb ($1,488/tonne, €1,056/tonne) on Thursday, down from 68.375 cents/lb last week.
