August average daily chlorine production falls by 6.1% in Europe

LONDON (ICIS)--Average daily chlorine production in the EU plus Norway and Switzerland fell by 6.1% in August from the previous month, while inventories of co-product caustic soda increased by 4.1%, industry body Euro Chlor said on Friday.

Average daily output of chlorine was 26,693 tonnes in August, 6.1% lower than the 28,415 tonnes in July. On a year-on-year basis, August output was 5.2% lower.

The region produced 827,483 tonnes of chlorine in August 2011 compared with 880,866 tonnes in July.

Average capacity utilisation fell by 5 percentage points from July to 77.3% in August.

Caustic soda stocks reached 260,210 tonnes, up from 249,938 in July. Year-on-year, stocks were 14,209 tonnes higher than August 2010.
