HOUSTON (ICIS)--Konarka has agreed to work with ThyssenKrupp on building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) components, the US-based developer of solar plastic films said on Friday.

Konarka said it will work with Germany-based steelmaker ThyssenKrupp to jointly develop steel roof and other construction elements for BIPVs.

Under the agreement, ThyssenKrupp will apply Konarka’s photovoltaic technology to a production process during which steel strip is coil-coated with films, paint or plastic coatings.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

In related news, Dow Chemical said last week it had won a grant from the US Department of Energy to help fund a programme to cut the costs of BIPV solar products.

Konarka is based in Lowell, Massachusetts. Its stakeholders include energy majors Chevron and Total.
