SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Showa-Shell Sekiyu permanently shut a 120,000 bbl/day crude distillation unit (CDU) at its Keihin refinery on Tuesday, a source close to the company said.

The CDU, along with a 30,000 bbl/day vaccum distillation unit (VDU) and a 21,500 bbl/day continuous catalytic reformer (CCR) – referred to as Ohgimachi factory, were permanently closed and will be dismantled, the source said.

Company officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

The shutdown has been planned since last year based on an earlier story from ICIS.

Meanwhile, the Mizue factory, which includes a 65,000 bbl/day CDU, a 58,000 bbl/day VDU, a 42,000 bbl/day fluid catalytic cracker (FCC), a 27,000 bbl/day flexicoker and an 8,000 bbl/day naphtha reformer, are running and will not be shut, the source said.
