GUANGZHOU (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Shijiazhuang Refining & Chemical started building a 5m tonne/year crude distillation unit (CDU) at Shijiazhuang in Hebei province on 23 September as part of its refinery expansion, Sinopec said on Tuesday.

In addition, the company will build a 2.2m tonne/year catalytic cracker and 2.6m tonne/year diesel hydrogenation unit as downstream facilities at the CDU, according to a statement from Sinopec.

The project costs yuan (CNY) 6.4bn ($1bn) to build, according to a Sinopec statement released last year.

The company is expected to start up the CDU and the downstream units by late 2012, a company source said.

Sinopec Shijiazhuang currently operates a 5m tonne/year CDU at the same site, according to its website.
